Learning the basics of domain name hosting
The Basics of Domain Name Hosting
Domain name hosting is a service that isn’t as popular or familiar to the people as domain name registering, the service everyone refers to when they want their website to have a web address. However, unknown to many, these services go hand in hand when it comes to connecting web clients to a particular website. But what exactly is domain name hosting, and how is it different from domain name registering?
Technically, the domain name registrar should also be the domain name host, unless specified otherwise. This is because a registered domain name is just that; it is simply registered to the domain name system, which means you already own the domain naming and cannot be used by anyone else. However, if you want the domain name to direct web clients to your website using your domain name, it still has to be configured to do just that. This is how domain name hosting is different from just registering—domain name hosting involves the configuration so it will work to serve for a particular website, so to speak.
Domain name hosting, therefore, really includes two main services beyond the registering. These are the set-up and the configuration. The domain name hosting set-up is quite self-explanatory; it sets up the domain name so the domain name system can recognize it in connection with a particular website. Configuration, on the other hand, is done with the web host, so the domain name is connected to the server where the website files (and, in turn, the website itself) are located.
